Passivhaus buildings are the world’s leading standard in energy efficient construction, designed using technologically advanced components within a super efficient building envelope and a whole building ventilation system to achieve exceptionally low running costs, providing comfortable, healthy and sustainable homes.
GWP Project Services played a central role in the design, construction and accreditation of the first Passivhaus UK certified dwellings at ‘Carnegie Village’, Leeds Metropolitan University Student Residences in 2010.
Since then, with both domestic and commercial interest in the Passivhaus system growing rapidly, GWP Project Services have been ideally positioned to provide strategic analysis, appraisal and planning of Passivhaus certified building projects, most recently for client One Manchester at their social housing development Stoney Gate Walk, Manchester which completed in 2019.
Our research, analysis and understanding of the most efficient sustainable construction methods and innovative technologies have ensured these ground breaking projects have been a success, feedback from users in operation has suggested energy cost savings of up to 75% and comfort levels not just maintained from traditional building design but surpassing current levels of expectation.
GWP Project Services have also provided advice relating to the Passivhaus principles to developers, designers and contractors, raising awareness of the fundamental practices of Passivhaus design benefits and opportunities through use of the PassivHaus Planning Package (‘PHPP’) simulation software which can appraise and assess the design characteristics of a building and feedback its applicability to the standard. Much of our role as a Passivhaus accredited designer is about applying simple yet effective thermally efficient design principles and advising on these principles can be achieved in practice.
