GWP SECURE ‘EXCELLENT’ BREEAM CERTIFICATION FOR MEPC LEEDS ASSET

GWP Project Services are pleased to have recently secured six BREEAM In Use International certificates for leading developer & asset manager MEPC’s primary Leeds based asset – Wellington Place.

Following MEPC’s acquisition in 2020 by global funder Federated Hermes, who GWP Project Services have worked with for the last 6 years, Wellington Place was identified a key development for BREEAM In Use appraisal, part a portfolio wide strategy to understand operational efficiency and sustainability standards of existing buildings. BREEAM In-Use is an assessment and certification scheme designed to help building owners, occupiers and management to analyse and benchmark environmental performance of existing operation assets. It covers major environmental issues that affect buildings throughout their operational life capturing data across key sustainability categories and encouraging continual improvement over a three-year appraisal cycle.

Located in the heart of Leeds city centre, Wellington Place has established itself as an outstanding new urban quarter, with a 22-acre estate offering a vibrant community comprising of high spec office space, residential, retail and leisure facilities. The scope of this assessment focused on Buildings 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 10 of the estate, whilst buildings 11 and 12 are currently under construction.

Buildings 1 – 6  at Wellington Place which at home to Sky Bet, Bet Fair and property agent Savills amongst others achieved ‘Very Good’ ratings, well above the average for Federated Hermes assets. Building 10 outperformed it’s neighbours, achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating – making it the highest BREEAM In Use certified building within the Federated Hermes portfolio to date.

Reaching certification of this standard is a tremendous achievement and a reflection of the positive outlook and application from MEPC and CBRE building management teams at Wellington Place, who were closely involved in the assessment process.

GWP Project Services continue to collaborate with Federated Hermes, evaluating their extensive portfolio and working towards achieving many more BREEAM certificates at this high standard.
